About This Courseware

Do you know what is the most critical skill to successful university study? Conduct outstanding research? Or pave your future career?

It is all related to one very important personal competence: information literacy (IL).

This information literacy (IL) courseware is offered by the libraries of all 8 UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong. Our courseware is self-paced, non-credit bearing suitable for undergraduate students in all years of study.

The 1+8 modules of our courseware were designed to help you to become an analytical, wise, and creative information user for effective learning at the university and tackle professional challenges after graduation.

First, you will learn characteristics of the university information environment in the focal module "Not only search skills: What is InfoLit for U study & career?".

You will learn:

  • How to break down a university research topic and outline its “information needs”?
  • Don't find answers: search for ideas to develop ideas
  • Not just filter: Evaluate ideas to form new ideas
  • Never list them: Connect ideas to create your idea
  • Stay hungry: Join & learn in real settings

Then, you will learn discipline-related information literacy skills and practices from the 8 discipline-related modules "IL in ... ...", including

  • Arts & Humanities
  • Business & Economics
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Law
  • Medicine & Health related studies
  • Science
  • Social Science

Furthermore, you can obtain an achievement certificate issued by our courseware automatically if you successfully complete the “Check your understanding” questions of [the focal module +  at least 1 of the discipline-related modules] with 70% or above correct rate

Requirements

This course is designed for all university students, as well as senior secondary students who want a smooth transition to learn at the university.

There is no entry requirement.
